PDRN Mesotherapy: Technique, Benefits & Treatment Protocol
PDRN mesotherapy is a refined injectable technique that delivers polydeoxyribonucleotide into the mesodermal layer of the skin using multiple superficial microinjections. Mesotherapy, developed by French physician Michel Pistor in 1952, is based on the principle that small doses of active substances delivered directly to the target tissue produce superior results compared to systemic administration. When PDRN is delivered via mesotherapy, it creates a widespread regenerative effect across the entire treatment area, making it ideal for overall skin rejuvenation. The mesotherapy technique is particularly well-suited for PDRN delivery because it distributes the active ingredient evenly across the dermis in a controlled, measured manner. Using either manual injection with fine needles or an automated mesogun (mesotherapy injector), the practitioner delivers tiny volumes of PDRN at regular intervals across the treatment zone. This creates a matrix of regenerative activation points that collectively stimulate collagen synthesis, improve microcirculation, and reduce inflammation throughout the treated area. PDRN mesotherapy has gained significant traction in aesthetic medicine for its ability to achieve the 'baby skin' or 'chok-chok' effect — the dewy, bouncy, translucent skin quality highly prized in Korean beauty culture. The treatment excels at improving overall skin quality rather than targeting a single concern, making it popular as a maintenance treatment for patients who want to preserve youthful, healthy-looking skin. Compared to deeper injection techniques, PDRN mesotherapy typically involves less discomfort and shorter recovery time. The superficial delivery depth means less risk of bruising and faster resolution of injection marks. The treatment can be performed on the face, neck, decolletage, and backs of hands. Most patients undergo a course of 4-6 sessions at 2-week intervals, followed by monthly or bi-monthly maintenance sessions to sustain the cumulative benefits.
How It Works
PDRN mesotherapy begins with skin preparation: thorough cleansing followed by application of a topical anesthetic cream for 20-30 minutes. The treatment area is then re-cleansed with antiseptic solution and allowed to dry. The practitioner loads the PDRN solution into either individual syringes with 30-32 gauge needles (for manual technique) or an automated mesogun device. The automated mesogun is preferred by many clinicians for its consistency — it delivers precisely calibrated volumes at uniform depth and speed, ensuring even distribution of PDRN across the treatment area. Using the nappage technique (rapid superficial injections), the practitioner systematically covers the entire treatment area. Each injection delivers approximately 0.01-0.02ml of PDRN at a depth of 1-2mm into the superficial dermis. Injections are spaced approximately 1cm apart in a grid pattern. The technique requires approximately 100-200 injection points for a full-face treatment. The practitioner adjusts needle depth based on the treatment zone — shallower around the delicate periorbital and perioral areas, slightly deeper on the cheeks and forehead. Following the mesotherapy injections, a calming mask or growth factor serum is applied to soothe the skin. Some clinics incorporate LED phototherapy (red light at 633nm or near-infrared at 830nm) for 10-15 minutes to enhance the regenerative response and reduce inflammation. The total session time is approximately 45-60 minutes. Aftercare includes avoiding sun exposure, heat, and intense exercise for 24 hours, and refraining from applying active skincare products for 48 hours.
