Retinyl palmitate is the mildest common vitamin A derivative, so irritation is less likely than with retinol, retinal, or tretinoin — but it can still cause some dryness, flaking, or sensitivity, especially early on or on reactive skin, and PDRN's soothing, barrier-repairing action is there to offset exactly that. Introduce retinyl palmitate gradually (start a few nights a week and build up) rather than daily from the start, and use PDRN alongside to calm and support the barrier. Vitamin A in any form increases sun sensitivity, so daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is non-negotiable with this combination; retinyl palmitate is typically an evening ingredient. Retinoids, including retinyl palmitate, are generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding — if you are pregnant or trying to conceive, skip the retinoid and speak with your doctor (PDRN itself is a separate question to raise with your provider). Patch test any new product, especially the retinoid, and don't layer retinyl palmitate with strong acids or other potent actives at the same time while your skin is adjusting.
